PETER AND JUNE / England engagement Ladies and Gentleman, Start Your Engines… 22/8/2009 0:46:08 | engagement

Guys and their cars have always gone hand-in-hand, but if you ask a guy to make a choice between his car and his wife, what would his answer be?
We flew to England for this shoot, which took place at the famous Silverstone race track. The main star was obviously the racing car… as well as the bride and groom – June and Peter. Without having even entered Silverstone, we could already hear the loud thrum of powerful engines roaring around the track, enhancing an already exciting day.
The idea of merging the tough, inherently masculine atmosphere of a formula one racing track with the feminine, emotional countenance of a blushing bride presented a big challenge to us as photographers, but it also allowed us the opportunity to be bolder in our creative choices. With the weather not at its best, we decided to use what we had and in the end, the ever persistent wind and rain led us to create a set of photos with a certain air of romantic heroism.
The most remarkable moments came when June, who patiently waited for Peter to return from the track, ran to him every time he finished a race with a brilliant smile on her face, meeting Peter with an embrace and thereby furthering our concept of a returning hero.
As it turns out, women and cars can have an equal place in a man’s world… at the very least, they do in Peter’s world. Many thanks go to both Peter and June for inspiring us to think further outside the box.

SARAH & KENNETH / Paris engagement 20/8/2009 0:48:49 | engagement

We may have been to France many times before, but every time we go, we discover something new. Our trip to Paris with Sarah and Kenneth was no exception – many of the places we went were new experiences for us.
Sarah and Kenneth are a lovely, sweet couple and we wanted the portraits to reflect their personalities. Naturally photogenic Sarah was happy to try different styles and ideas and her ease in front of the camera made for a happy shoot.

FLORENCE, BENNY AND ELIZABETH / Studio Portrait And Baby Makes Three… 16/8/2009 1:01:32 | kids

Florence and Benny were clients of ours, having previously had their wedding day photographed by us. Since then, they’ve had a new addition to the family - Elizabeth, who is now nearing her two-year birthday. Mum and Dad brought their lovely child to the studios for a family portrait and whilst it took Elizabeth a little while to warm up to the camera, it wasn’t long before her natural, lively character came out to play.
During the shooting, the indulgent expressions on their faces as they watched their child made it clear that Florence and Benny adore Elizabeth. Elizabeth, once relaxed, was in her element as she and her parents messed about in front of the camera, making it easy for us to capture the light, innocent aspect of the very young.

CLARE & THANG / London wedding Bright Lights, Big City 6/8/2009 0:43:10 | weddings

We’ve been to London many times to shoot pre-wedding portraits but with Clare & Thang the whole experience was something entirely different, as we were also there to photograph a traditional English wedding.
Thang and Clare have known each other for many years and it’s easy to see their connection and familiarity with each other. On the day of the wedding, Clare ran over an hour late for the ceremony, leading both Thang and the vicar to worry. However, as soon as Clare appeared in aisle, Thang couldn’t stop smiling and completely forgot Clare had been late.
We were very conscientious of the fact that there were many differences between a traditional English wedding and a traditional Chinese wedding. Everyone immersed themselves into every aspect of the day and made the day an extraordinary one. Even when throwing the bouquet, the bridesmaids and guests were very involved and it was evident that everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
A special thanks to Thang, a chef who has won awards in many competitions, for taking Susan and I to his restaurant and cooking a delicious meal for us.

A Token of Beauty 1/8/2009 1:43:51 | pregnant portrait

Pregnancy is beautiful. It’s not surprising that a lot of clients come to me for a keepsake of this time and most are willing to be photographed nude or topless. As a photographer, these particular shoots are all about bodyshape and the way I can use light to control the mood of the image. I focus on the shape of the body, the gestures of the expectant mother and as a result, many of the photographs I take are for private viewing only.
In this particular photos, however, I feel that both the pose and the way the subject was lit produced a beautiful image that I wanted to share with you. If you’d like to create some of your own, please let us know.
