CISSY & JEFFREY / Unforgettable, Shanghai
9/12/2010 2:54:30 | engagement

Shanghai is like our home away from home. We've traveled to the city so many times, but we always find something new to be excited about, whether it's discovering a new part of the city or finding out something about our couples.

With Cissy and Jeffrey, the most memorable part of the trip was getting to know our couple a little better. We always like to find out more about our couples in order to create a set of portraits that will highlight their individual personalities and whilst it's easy to do that when we spend so much time together, it's always when the unexpected happens that allows us a deeper understanding of each other.

During this particular photoshoot, we'd arrived at a location with the intention of shooting a few portraits. Unfortunately, a certain member of security kept getting in our way, outright protesting our presence and constantly blocking our way. Until Cissy decided enough was enough. It
was an amazing thing to see, our graceful and elegant bride standing up to this persistent security guard, using her impeccably fluent mandarin to convince him to let us continue shooting.

It just goes to show: don't judge a book by its cover. And a particular thanks goes to Cissy whom, without her timely interception, we would have still been arguing with an overzealous security guard.

JANET & KELVIN / Home Is Where The Heart Is (HK prewedding)
2/12/2010 0:28:26 | engagement

Shooting prewedding portraits overseas always sounds so exotic and yes, we are lucky enough to get to go to some amazing places around the world with our happy couples. And we never tire of discovering new places where we can get our creative juices flowing. However, sometimes, there really is no place like home. For Janet and Kelvin's prewedding portraits, we explored all the nooks and crannies of Hong Kong. The locations we ended up in weren't anything special - and uncommon for a couple looking for the more traditional Hong Kong feel to their portraits.

Nothing spectacular comes to mind when it comes to the locations we chose. And the beauty of that is that we experienced the unexpected. Turning something ordinary, like a tree on the side of a road, into an entire forest with just a change of camera angle or a particular way of lighting takes imagination, observation and of course, a couple willing to try anything.

It just goes to show that it doesn't have to be complicated to create magic. There was very little touchup needed on these photos, because we already had the perfect moment captured.

Special thanks go to Janet and Kelvin, who really did go beyond the norm during this shoot. There's not many a bride who will go climbing trees and getting their hands dirty for the sake of art!
