When it comes to shooting overseas pre-wedding portraits, we often sit down with our clients who have a good idea of where they want to go. It may be somewhere known for romance, like Paris or Prague; it may be somewhere known for its iconic landmarks, like London or New York. Sometimes, it's the place that is most meaningful to the bride and groom, for example where they met or where the proposal took place. Our approach to these shootings is very simple; wherever we end up shooting, make it special for our happy couples.
For Fion and Gerard, Sydney was their chosen location and it's not hard to see why. This vibrant city is where they have made their home - and so we did not visit many tourist spots for their portraits. Instead, we visited all their favourite places, eschewing the famous landmarks for a much more intimate setting.
Regular blog readers will notice that this particular set of images are vastly different to our usual fare. Both Fion and Gerard are bold, vibrant people - and so it makes sense that their portraits reflect on this characteristic. We went into this shoot looking for the modern look - we worked a lot with contrast here, and colour tone and really like the results.
It just goes to show that as long as it is a place that has meaning to you and your partner, you can shoot anywhere in the world.

PAULINE / LOVE IN INDIA

India is one country on our list that we very much looked forward to travelling. We finally got the opportunity to visit this beautiful place with Pauline and her fiancé. The reason for choosing India for their pre-wedding portraits was because the groom is Indian. However, as he was born in Africa and had never stepped foot in India before, it was time for him to go back to his roots - and to take his bride to be (and us!) with him.
Those few days we stayed, India was having its hottest weather. The temperatures reached almost 50 degrees in the afternoon and our gear suffered along with us - we had to keep them next to cooling pads to prevent melting! Strangely enough, we thought our groom would be okay with the hot weather; turns out that he wasn't, and the legend that brides do not get tired was proven spectacularly by our beautiful bride... Pauline chose to wear the traditional Indian dress for her photos and the material by itself must have weighed more than our cameras!
India is a beautiful country, with lots to offer besides the local tourist spots. Our expectations were blown out of he water - not a curry to be seen but the groom did take us to a Japanese restaurant to have the most delicious sashimi! Under the weather conditions, it was a fantastic way of cooling ourselves down.
This was indeed a very a memorable trip - truly enjoyable. Special thanks to Mini, our incredible make up artist who made sure the bride was camera-ready at every point. Thanks, also, to Pauline and her fiancé for the opportunity to explore a new horizon. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

CORIA & PAUL / SUMMER IN THE CITY

If you want cool and trendy, New York is one of the places the go. Cutting edge fashion, filled to the brim with culture and just all round one of the best cities in the world. Which is absolutely why New York was the choice of locations for our cool and trendy couple, Coria and Paul. We always have a good time in the City that never sleeps, and this trip was made even more memorable with the company of our lovely couple.
We recently shot Coria and Paul's wedding day in Hong Kong and it was, as you can imagine, a very cool occasion. Thanks to Coria and Paul for all their kind arrangements, their fantastic company and congratulations once again on their marriage. All the best!
